About us

How we came about the breed Newfoundland

I first found out about the breed 'newfoundland', classically, from a dogbreed book in 2000. Their appearance overwhelmed us and so we decided to get some more information about the breed. The newfoundland's coat, drooling and stubborness kept us from not getting one right at that moment: but all the other characteristics matched what we were looking for. We have one allergic and one potentially allergic in our family; we didn't want to risk anything so we got our first dog, a newfoundland, Capri (Larinkallion Brysselinblicca), during spring -03 when one of the two allergics wouldn't be at home anymore.

Most of the information about the breed we got from different breeders, dogbreedbooks and from our dog school teacher. I actually participated in the dog school for over a year without a dog. It taught me well how to teach and command our dogs.

Our dogs at home

Capri (Larinkallion Brysselinblicca) is absolutely magnificent; beautiful and intelligent, active, stubborn, dominant, our pet. At two years of age Capri had her first litter with Eros (Ursinus Velutus Vaya Con Dios), of which we kept one bitch, Vera (Larinkallion Huomionghode).

From Vera we can distinguish all the good characteristics of Capri: active, beautiful and bright. The stubborness and dominance have come as a part of the deal, but bring the difficulty in training that I wanted. From her father she inherited her bodystructure and her head.

Our breeding strategies and aims

Our kennelname Watercubs we got in 2006, our target is to breed active, beautiful and, most of all, healthy and able working dogs. We try to maintain the all so famous lifesaving skills of the newfoundlands.

We are only a small kennel, having a litter approximately every two years. This is why the combinations are especially carefully made, only looking forward to maintain and improve the Newfoundlands we have. The best criteria for deciding on whether to breed is if we would keep one from the combination. If not, then the litter is not worth making.

Who are we

We are a family of six. Four children, three of which already live abroad studying towars their university degrees. The others living in Belgium take care of the dogs, because unfortunately the small student appartments do not accept them. The dogs are a part of our family, they always travel with us, where ever we go. They live with the family indoors and usually sleep in front of the doors, not letting anyone pass without them knowing.
